PILGER, Neb. -- The National Weather Service in Valley has examined Monday afternoon's two tornadoes that hit the Pilger area and determined the larger tornado was an EF4, with estimated wind speeds of up to 200 mph. The other paralleling tornado was an EF2. Stanton County Sheriff, Mike Unger, says 75% of Pilger was demolished. About 45 to 50 homes were destroyed, while a dozen more homes were destroyed in Dixon County. The 5-year-old girl killed in the storm has been identified as Calista Dixon. She was in a mobile home on Main Street in Pilger. The storm tossed her and other people out when it hit. Authorities say 74-year-old David Herout of Clarkson was also killed when he was thrown from his vehicle during a crash that happened as the storm hit.
