Waverly Care Center Employee Cited for Three Counts of Assault, Abuse of Vulnerable Adult

Thursday afternoon, deputies of the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department cited and released 49-year-old Barbara Fallon, of Lincoln, for three counts of abuse of a vulnerable adult and three counts of third degree assault. Fallon works as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Waverly Care Center. Co-workers of Fallon and one patient at the care center told the Sheriff's Department that Fallon was using excessive physical force while moving patients. Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says that, for example, when the patients were holding onto something and Fallon was trying to move them, Fallon would, slap the patients' arms to get them to cooperate. The three victims of abuse are ages 79, 89 and 73. The 79-year-old has Alzheimer's disease while the 89-year-old has dementia. The 73-year-old reported her own incident. Sheriff Wagner says these cases are difficult to crack because the elderly victims and patients often have memory impairments and bruise easily which can cause difficulty in examining how injuries really occurred. Fallon's abuse charges are felonies and the assault charges are misdemeanors. She was not lodged in jail due to health conditions.
