Students Backpacked Pot into Schoo

A 12-year-old and a 13-year-old were caught Friday with marijuana in their backpacks at Schoo Middle School. Their parents were told about it, but a school-wide notification to all parents was not sent. Russ Uhing, director for student services at LPS, tells our television partner, 10/11 NEWS administrators weigh several factors, including the threat to student safety, before making this decision. In February, an Irving Middle School student brought pot-laced cookies to school and gave them to classmates. It prompted an immediate e-mail response from the school to every parent. It is an LPS policy to try to protect a student's right to privacy and determine if drugs were intended to be distributed before telling every school parent. The Schoo students face fivbe days suspension and possible expulsion.
