LPS Security Director Proposes "Plain Language System" to Aid Dangerous Situations

When there's a threatening situation for a public school in Lincoln, a Code Red is issued, but that could mean a crime has occurred in the neighborhood or an intruder is in the building. LPS Security Director, Joe Wright, wants Code Red to be more specific, so he's proposing "a plain language system" made up of direct words requiring specific actions by staff and students. This language would include words like "run," "hide" and "fight." Wright says security procedures and safety upgrades could be in place as early as next fall if the district decides to make changes.
