Donald Everett, Sr. Founder of Runza Restaurants Dies

LINCOLN -- You know him as the man who took Runzas worldwide.  Donald Everett Sr. died Tuesday at the age of 70 after battling Alzheimer's disease for eight years.  His mother, Sally Everett, opened the original Runza Drive Inn at 2600 Park Boulevard in Lincoln with her brother in 1949.  Everett went to work for the business in 1964, opening a second Runza at 56th and Holdrege streets in 1966, when Everett bought the trade name and incorporated the business.  Everett franchised in 1979, turned down more applications than he approved because he his standards were so high. He helped build Runza into a chain of 80 restaurants in four states. Funeral services will be Friday morning at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
