Input Gathered On Equally Handing Out State Aid To Schools

LINCOLN -- Just under $1 billion is going out each year to public schools across Nebraska.  Around 114 districts are not getting state dollars since their resources outweigh their needs.  The Legislature's Education Committee is meeting around the state to gather input for a report on ways to make the state aid formula more equitable.  Some school officials say they understand the need for property tax relief, but schools rely heavily on that revenue, and say it would not only need to made up somewhere else, they think the whole state aid fund needs to grow.  The committee has four more meetings scheduled through the next week.
