LINCOLN -- Work is about to begin on a Lincoln trail that is used for the city's annual marathon and half-marathon. Lincoln city officials say the project to widen the Helen Boosalis Trail along Highway 2 will start next week. The expansion is designed to accommodate increased participation in the races. The event drew about 10,000 runners this year. The trail will close between 27th and 48th streets through the end of November. It will be widened from 8 feet to 10 feet once completed. The project is expected to cost $426,000. Funding was provided by the city, the Lincoln Track Club, the Visitors Promotion Committee and the Great Plains Trail Network.
