City Gets Bike Lane Grant

Lincoln's efforts to make downtown more bike-friendly got a big boost thursday.  A $10,000 grant has been received from People For Bikes, a national group promoting bike riding.  It will be used to pay for a 2.2-mile protected bikeway along “N” Street through downtown. The grant will be matched by the Jayne Snyder fund.  When it's completed, the protected bikeway along “N” Street from will conntect the Antelope Valley Parkway to the West Haymarket area. Ernie Castillo, of the City Urban Development Department, said more than 87,000 people live within two miles of the ‘N’ Street protected bikeway, so the project will make downtown more accessible to about one-third of Lincoln’s residents.” The  design phase is scheduled for this fall and construction will begin in spring 2014.  A larger P Street improvement project is also underway.
