Omaha Fire Chief Resigns, Following Long Contract Dispute



OMAHA -- Omaha's fire chief has resigned under a deal with the mayor that ends a long dispute between the two.  Chief Mike McDonnell leaves immediately.  He'll be placed on paid administrative leave starting Tuesday.  The chief's departure ends a fire department budget dispute between Mayor Jean Stothert and McDonnell.  The mayor has agreed to keep three assistant fire chiefs through the end of next year and not to lay off firefighters until at least July 1st of next year.
