NORFOLK, Neb. -- Former Norfolk Senator Mike Flood says he's considered rejoining the Republican race for Nebraska governor, but he won't because he wants to be with his family as his wife battles breast cancer. Flood said he doesn't want to be campaigning hundreds of miles from Norfolk if his wife gets discouraging news. Flood was considered a strong candidate because he was a former Speaker of the Legislature who helped resolve tough issues, but he dropped out of the race in December after his wife was diagnosed. Flood says his wife's doctors are optimistic now that she has undergone chemotherapy and a double mastectomy.
