LINCOLN -- It's been hot outside of Lincoln's Pinnacle Bank Arena, but very cool inside. Crews have been testing the Arena's ice floor, so in the future the Arena can host events like Disney on Ice and college or even NHL hockey games. The floor has been cooled several degrees an hour for the past week, building up to 3/4" of ice, which is the standard thickness for the NHL. Forming ice next time on the floor will take less than 36 hours. Officials say it was cheaper to build ice components into the floor during construction than waiting until the project is finished.
