Deadly Shootings In Lincoln and Omaha

A 21-year-old man remains in jail in connection with a weekend shooting which left one man dead and another man injured. Michael Arellano Jr. was arrested Saturday in the shooting of 38 year old Shane Christopher Newman in the 300 block of West Saunders Avenue, but investigators haven't indicated whether he's the shooter. He's being held as a suspect in aiding and abetting a felony. The shooting happened early Saturday at a house in northwest Lincoln. A 22 year old man showed up at the hospital shortly after Newman was brought in. He reportedly had non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.  In Omaha, three people were killed and two others were critically injured after a weekend shooting spree tied to one suspect. Omaha Police chief Todd Schmaderer said Sunday that the unidentified suspect would have killed others if he hadn't been fatally shot by an officer after a 30-minute rampage in south Omaha. The suspect was killed after a gunfight with police. Meanwhile, two teenagers were shot and killed over the weekend in a separate shooting in north Omaha. Authorities say 18-year-old Brendon Ford and 17-year-old DMarco Pope were killed in the shooting shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
