LINCOLN -- Big changes are underway on "P" Street in downtown Lincoln. The stretch of "P" Street from 9th to Centennial Mall is identified as the newest Primary Retail corridor expected to extend the energy and atmosphere of the new Haymarket Development. Hallie Salem of Lincoln's Urban Development Department told the Lincoln City Council on Monday the newly updated master plan envisions that the entire atmosphere of downtown will change. The City Council heard reasons why $5 3/4 million dollars in tax increment funds should be budgeted for additional improvements, which are expected to attract more retailers, bars and restaurants to "P" Street. The improvements are expected to help the area take advantage of the built-in traffic from UNL's City Campus, and the improvements in the Haymarket.
