Nebraska Ranks High For Senior Health

LINCOLN -- Americans are living longer, but sicker lives, according to United HealthCare. Looking at 34 different criteria, the foundation ranks Nebraska 14th for senior health. The foundation's first ever senior health care report shows 80% of seniors in this country are living with at least 1 chronic health condition. Nebraska is fortunate, in the fact volunteerism is high, food availability for seniors is abundant and there are plenty of highly-rated nursing home beds. Nebraska's challenges include a low percentage of senior social support, a high geriatrician shortfall and limited availability of home health care workers. Minnesota ranks highest for senior health...Mississippi the lowest.
