LINCOLN -- Six working days left in the Nebraska Legislature. Lawmakers must scramble if they want to over-ride any of Governor Heineman's weekend vetoes. The governor removed nearly $45 million from the proposed state budget, including money for a nursing college in Lincoln, renovations for renovations for the Nebraska History Museum and a 70% increase in mass transit. The approved budget will allow a 2-year tuition freeze at the University of Nebraska and state colleges and fund a new Central Nebraska Veterans Home. In the $7.8 billion budget, Governor Heineman trimmed off almost $8 million from general spending, more than $11 million in cash transfers and almost $26 million in spending with federal dollars.
