LINCOLN -- Monday is Tax Day, a day off for state lawmakers, but Tuesday when they come back to Lincoln, they'll have money on their minds. Supporters of a proposal to expand Medicaid in Nebraska say they're willing to include safeguards in the bill which that could help the state control its costs. One idea backed by Omaha Senator Jeremy Nordquist and other supporters would trigger a mandatory review if costs increased unexpectedly, or if the federal government fails to fund it as promised. Critics of the proposal admit they haven't yet seen it yet, but Papillion Senator Bill Kintner, says states that try to withdraw from Medicaid in the future would face heavy political pressure. Expansion is an optional part of the federal health care law.
