LINCOLN -- Can't buy fireworks in Lincoln until Wednesday, so why is a stand at 17th and "E" selling them? Because the fireworks stand is on Ponca tribal land. They're exempt from firework sale laws, which limit fireworks retailers to sell in Lincoln city limits July 3 and 4. Remember though, you can ONLY set them off July 3 and 4, otherwise you could be fined. Another thing to keep in mind is that there appears to be grass fires every year on the 4th of July. This year might not be as bad because there's been more rain, but remember...you can only light fireworks at a few state park and recreation areas, including Branched Oak near Malcolm, Fremont State Recreation Area near Fremont, Two Rivers near Venice, Pawnee State Recreation Area near Emerald, Wagon Train near Hickman and Memphis State Recreation Area near Ashland. Look for the signs telling you where you can set off your fireworks in the parks.
