Rogers Gets Probation And Jail Time For Faking Hate Crime

LINCOLN -- A judge has given jail time and probation to a Lincoln woman reported being attacked by three men who carved anti-gay slurs into her body. On Thursday, Lancaster County Judge Gale Pokorny sentenced former Nebraska basketball player Charlie Rogers to a week in jail starting April 29 and two years of probation. Pokorny says evidence shows Rogers' report was a lie. Rogers was convicted in December. Authorities charged Rogers after she told police in July that three masked men broke into her Lincoln house and assaulted her. A neighbor told police that Rogers crawled from her home naked, bleeding and screaming for help. Lincoln Police say Rogers faked the attack because she thought it would inspire change in the treatment of gay people.
